Northeast Metro Climate Action invites everyone to attend training for advancing environmental and climate resolutions at the upcoming party caucuses. The training will be led by the 100% Campaign and MN Interfaith Power and Light. Two opportunities for trainings: at 7pm on Monday Feb 10 at Shoreview Library and 7pm on Tuesday Feb 11 at White Bear Unitarian Church. See calendar for more details.

Stan Sattinger with the MN350 Climate Solutions Team presents at Shoreview Library at 7pm on January 13, 2020. In this presentation, Mr. Sattinger describes how our food choices are a key factor in reducing our personal carbon footprint. Reductions in GHG emissions may be achieved by reducing the proportion of meat in our diets and by selecting pasture-fed meat. In addition, reducing food waste has enormous potential for further emission reductions.
Don Arnosti, Executive Director of MN Izaak Walton League and former director of MN Audobon Society, presents “Birds and Climate Change” starting at 7pm on Dec 9 at Shoreview Library. Don will also discuss citizen involvement and current conservation and environmental issues in the MN Legislature.
Northeast Metro Climate Action will have an information table before and after this presentation at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi starting at 6:30 on Nov 21. Come learn more about Will Steger’s observations on how climate change is impacting our earth through his Arctic expeditions and meet with environmental and climate action groups before and after the presentation.
Join us at the Peace United Methodist Church parking lot on Oct 26 from 2-4pm to learn what it’s like to drive an EV from real owners. Also learn more about the Governor’s Low Emission Vehicle standard and even send a note to your legislators with your support of the new standard.
On Wednesday evening September 18 at 6:30 pm, clean energy advocate Steve
Jorissen, PhD will present “Avoiding Climate Chaos – What Can Each of Us Do?” at
White Bear Library, 2150 2nd St, White Bear Lake, MN 55110. Dr. Jorissen

Northeast Metro Climate Action invites you to an informational event on Tuesday evening June 4 at 6:30 pm. The topic of the event is “Recognizing and Reducing Our Collective Impact on Ocean Life”. World Oceans Day is observed in June – get info about issues facing the oceans at this event!

Guest speaker at the June 4th event in White Bear Lake will be Prof. Kevin Theissen, Associate Professor of Geology at the University of St Thomas. This forum will focus on issues facing the health of the world’s oceans, including the bleaching of coral reefs, the warming and acidification of ocean waters related to climate change, and more. Professor Theissen’s presentation will focus on the science, impacts, consequences, and responses related to the problem of ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is called the “equally evil twin of climate change” because like climate change it is occurring mainly due to the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels.
Dr. Theissen’s research work applies geological and geochemical methods to study past climate and environmental change and he also does research related to climate change education, attitudes, and misconceptions. Dr. Theissen teaches courses in oceanography, paleoclimatology (past climates), and environmental geochemistry, all of which have strong sustainability themes.
